Immigration Legal Help
- Immigrant Law Center of Minnesota provides immigration legal assistance.
- Mid-Minnesota Legal Aid provides legal advice, advocacy, and representation to immigrants seeking assistance with family violence, adjustment of status, and citizenship matters.
- Minnesota State Bar Association provides an online tool to help locate private immigration lawyers in any zip code across the state.
Resettlement Help
- Arrive Ministries provides access to case managers who assist families upon arrival, including greeting them at the airport, helping secure housing, groceries, and basic needs items. Additional support services include assistance establishing medical care, enrolling in school, and finding English as a Second Language classes.
- International Institute of Minnesota provides assistance to refugees, asylees, and immigrants in navigating the process of permanent residency, citizenship, and other immigration procedures. Services offered include one-on-one support, job training, employment help, and referrals to low-cost immigration attorneys for further legal consultation when necessary.
- Minnesota Council of Churches assists refugees within a 100-mile radius of the Twin Cities by providing specialized services for individuals seeking asylum and refugees. Services include case management, education, employment, and immigration assistance.
- Lutheran Social Service of Minnesota offers refugee resettlement assistance and a refugee employment program.
- United Community Action Partnership helps new refugees who currently live in Cottonwood, Jackson, Kandiyohi, Lincoln, Lyon, McLeod, Meeker, Redwood, and Renville counties get settled in their new city. Services include meeting refugees at the airport, assistance completing applications for SNAP and Social Security, housing assistance, and more.
Know Your Rights
- American Civil Liberties Union of Minnesota investigates, researches, and provides free legal counsel for cases that are taken as civil liberties violations. Provides a Know Your Rights webpage of information for specific issues and groups.
- National Korean American Service & Education Consortium provides a Know Your Rights hotline available 24 hours/7 days a week to anyone interested in getting information on how to deal with Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) or other law enforcement officers at home, on the street, in public areas, or anywhere else.
